HEART Reads! is a Supplemental Educational Services Program. Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are additional academic instruction provided outside of the regular school day and designed to increase the academic achievement of students attending schools in Program Improvement (PI) Years 2 through 5. SES, or free tutoring, must be high quality, research based, and specifically designed to increase student academic achievement.

HEART Reads Program Model
Small group tutoring: 5-7 students to one credentialed teacher
Total Tutoring Hours per Group: 18 hours
Tutoring Frequency: Three days per week, ½ each day for 12 weeks or one hour sessions for 6 weeks per group.
Curriculum: Houghton Mifflin “Soar to Success” and “Early Success”
Assessments: RenLearn’s STAR Reading, pre / post
